Past Projects

A collection of projects and collaborations that have shaped my journey in technology and artificial intelligence.

Mai Dire AI

An AI format that makes artificial intelligence accessible and understandable. Like that cousin who can explain complex things without giving you a headache. It's here to take you by the hand and guide you through the fascinating but complex world of artificial intelligence, making it simple and accessible.

Festival Flinger

An archaeological rescue mission for the almost disappeared Flinger module for Festival speech synthesis system. This project involved resurrecting a singing speech synthesizer that was heavily hacked, had missing/outdated Makefiles, and was originally prepared for Windows systems. Successfully ported to work on Unix/macOS with 32-bit pointer arithmetic fixes and proper configuration flags.

Team: Solo project - archaeological rescue

Galapagos App

Developed the Galapagos App for Dinamo's ABC Galapagos typeface, a modular font system with 42 different cuts and 5 weights. The app allows designers to experiment with the typeface's unique character forms that evolve from one another, featuring vertical grid alignment and stylistic alternatives. The typeface transforms Felix Salut's physical Galapagos Game building blocks into a futuristic yet biological font.

This Exquisite Forest

Interactive installation produced by Google and Tate Modern that lets artists collaboratively create short animations using web-based drawing and music tools. Artists may branch off others' animations as they explore a specific theme, creating tree-like timelines. At Tate Modern, visitors may explore and contribute to life-size animation trees seeded by Tate artists. Awarded D&AD Wood Pencil for Digital Design.

(x)trees

Interactive art installation that dynamically generates a forest of trees from SMS and tweets. Converted the project from Flash to OpenFrameworks (v.3) for the ISEA2012 Machine Wilderness exhibit at Albuquerque Museum of Fine Art. The installation projected onto a 20' x 20' corner space, allowing audiences to send text messages and see their messages appear as branches in real-time. Featured in the academic book 'Modes of Knowing: Resources from the Baroque' (Mattering Press, 2016) as an example of baroque sensibility in big data visualizations.

Team: Agnes Chavez, Alessandro Saccoia (OpenFrameworks conversion), Jared Tarbell (original concept)
